What to expect when you switch IT providers

Switching usually takes about three weeks. Here's every step, what you'll need to provide, and how to avoid getting locked out by the old provider.

The biggest worry about switching IT providers is losing access to something important on the way out. With a plan, most teams are fully onboarded in two to three weeks, and the switch is invisible to staff.

Before you give notice

  • Make sure you, not the provider, own the Microsoft 365 global admin account
  • Confirm your domain is registered in the company's name
  • List every system with an admin login: firewall, Wi-Fi, backups, line-of-business apps
  • Check your contract's notice period and any handover obligations

Week one: review and secure

We review accounts, devices, email and backups, then fix the high-risk items first: MFA on every account, email authentication and a working backup.

Weeks two and three: enroll and hand over

Devices get our agent and your Intune policies, admin credentials are rotated and documented, and your team gets one number to call. The old provider's access is removed once everything is confirmed working.

After that

Support from a help desk that knows your setup, a monthly health summary and quarterly check-ins.
